Course Information
Book: The Theory of Numbers (fifth edition), Niven, Zuckerman, and Montgomery
Exams: a midterm and a final
Grading: The midterm is worth 40% of your grade. The final is worth 50%, and 10% goes for participation in class and office hours. Credit is given for improvement on the final.
Homework: http://nyjm.albany.edu:8000/~mark/classes/425-525/hmwk.html

Lectures will include material not in the book. Attendance is mandatory. If you have to miss class for any reason, you must get the notes from a classmate, and should study them as soon as possible.

This course is homework-intensive. You should be prepared to put in enough time to digest all the homework problems, and should be ready to present solutions in class. We will have regular problem sessions in which class members present their solutions.

Class discussion is strongly encouraged. Please come to class with questions, and also bring them to office hours.

It is also valuable to get to know others in the class and discuss the material with them. Mathematics is much easier to learn if you verbalize it.
